hey guys, i would really love to have listings showing the main poster for each movie of popular actors/actresses ... this would be a really nice feature. to see the main poster of all jackie chan movies for example. what do you think about it? is anybody else interested in that? j

Sure I will. The truth is that I was thinking that the tagline for actors was not enough, as people don't tag a lot, and even we have problems because people don't tag with the same name exactly.

I guess the best system, and easiest, would be "tagging" (I say tagging but I mean any different system) actors film by film. This means, if an actor is (at least) in one poster of a movie, we could mark that movie with his name. Example: Match Point

This movie would be marked with those actors:
-Jonathan Rhys Meyers
-Matthew Goode (just 1 movie, but he is)
-Brian Cox (just 1 movie, but he is)
-Penelope Wilton (just 1 movie, but she is)
-Emily Mortimer
-Scarlett Johansson

It's not as good as we could mark actors by poster, but we could have a good list of movies that surely have one poster with him/her, and not just movies where they worked.

By the way, I guess avoiding the confussing names, we could use actor numbers (for example nm0001667). Don't know if imdb would annoy with us if we copy them so many things, just an idea.

And then, with time and enough movies marked with actors, we could think about marking them poster by poster, but now it would be just an utopy.

hmm that tagging is really alot of work. and especially all that wrong tagges stuff is not really cool!

My "tagging" suggestion or the actual tagging? I think while it was something controlled and not like the present tagging system, it could work. The problem with tagging is that we don't have any "rule" to follow and can't modify them. And that people tag when they want to search as in shoutbox, sure

And well, it would be tagging movies, not groups or posters, so the number of tags will be short... when choosing an actor, the main poster of that movie could be shown as you said at first. With starting actors it would be what exactly your desire, with others a cool way to find movies in which they have,for sure, at least one poster.

Btw, any of the chosen system would be good. Yesterday I was searching posters where Katharine Hepburn was for my gf and well, it was a bit long copying imdb number for each movie and pasting it here...

Well, I still can use it because I didn't watch all films, just those with more than 1000 votes, to reduce the number, but this is better, sure

We can use it with any actor?? Just putting the actor nm number or is something in construction??

It's something new and indeed in construction...It only works for a few actors yet. If you want a list for any actor/actress please tell me or jayef, not a big deal to add it.

Ok, thank you for that one. Btw, if you need some help with those things and I can help just tell me. Of course I don't know anything about programming but well, as I see maybe adding pics for actors or something you think I can do.

And now, if you are making this tool with actor/actress what I said wouldn't be so useful, would be more accurate than a list of movies they've worked in but maybe in a secondary role, but sure is easier and quicker that marking them one by one. I just propose it because I didn't know about this one, but now I understand this:

Um...we could have a list of characters? Not everyone right now, it was a thing I thought for having a list of James Bond movies, so we could use the recent tool of imdb "characters": James Bond ch0000007

If not possible, using the current one, for person, a similar result in this case could be had with Ian Fleming as writer, as it uses the same "nm" numbers instead of the "ch" numbers: Ian Fleming nm0001220

Well actually it's only available for actors and actresses (right now). I know the URL has the same structure, but the HTML source code is a little different...

Ok, no prob. I realise about that as if all the information would appear, not only the acting one, with Katharine Hepburn for example she should appear too as singer,herself..., and it only appear the actress one. I thought that, as you add one by one, you decided when adding the main information related with that person (actor, writer, director...). But not being that way I understand better the system.

Anyway, there's no hurry for it, there are more important things before doing that
