On this site, i have seen some customs, and since when uploading it says don't upload customs, i thought i'd start a thread on it. I believe that n every films page, there should be a section on customs, so people don't get confused. I downloaded a custom from the site, and claimed it as an official poster on my blog/site www.horrorfilms.weebly.com .

Its a gray area. The rules of uploading states no customs/ fan-art poster allowed, yet once in a while, a custom poster does get approved. There is some custom posters that are even better than the official poster. A example is the Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li custom poster but the official poster is really crappy to begin with. Sometimes, a custom poster gets approved because it actually looks official and it manage to fool people.

My 2-cent is that there is exception to the rules of uploading customs for special cases. If it looks really good, it may get approved. If it looks really bad like someone has taken a minute on photoshop to slap it together, then it gets rejected.

I uploaded a custom for Green Lantern and it got accepted, actually i uploaded both that you see right now. It says upload posters, i mean the name of the website doesn't specify on which posters. They could have called it realpostersdb.com! my logic is a bit fuzzy, so sorry if i don't go up to vulcan specifications!

When you click UPLOAD at the top of the site you have rules:

1. No movie stills, no wallpapers, no promo shots & no customs
2. No porn movies
3. No blow-ups
4. No posters for specific episodes, only for movies or series!
5. Don't upload lower quality then existing ones. Highest resolution / quality stays online!

If no customs is not allowed, then why even have it in the category option for the upload in the first place?

a) For some exceptions. I usually don't add any, but real good ones (maybe 100 in all history of custom posters?). But the most of times customs are crap and obviosly, I won't add that. But well, there are some customs that are even more popular than real posters and are pretty well made, they are not even the 0.1% of customs people send here really. Now they are not added mainly, maybe just those great ones, but if you send a custom it will be surely refused, so I wouldn't try as I prefer to don't waste time

b) Some were too added in the past, a time where customs where allowed in this page, but now we delete most of them when we see them (but it's difficult to find them all in 239,000). We have not so many marked as customs, so you can see most of customs are those we didn't found yet. And some where marked in the categorize tool to found them easily later.

c) Some marked as customs are surely marked as customs by mistake lol So there are some marked as customs are we are not sure.

Edit: Btw, I'm going to delete some crap customs

By the way, for moderators: marked customs can quite easily be found by setting a filter (the little gear icon on top).

I personally love high quality custom stuff.

I just uploaded a poster that's debatably a custom- It was an official poster made for a movie long after release as a print, but it was clearly a movie poster. It was a retro-styled poster for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Perfect! It has been already released then Yeah, those are not customs but professional homages. Those are Eric Tan arts, and we already have those for the first two movies.

Always you have important information about a poster, just put it in comments (as you did). In those cases they could be mistaken as just some fanart custom is specially important. Of course the artist must be relevant in the bussiness, like this case.

I just want to pop in here and give some recognition to the creators of some "custom posters" that were recently uploaded by the Administrator 'jayef'.

Turner Classic Movies created a wonderful "microsite" with a film posters theme for their annual "Summer Under The Stars" Festival. This included "new" graphics for some classic films - both "Release posters" and "Teaser posters".

I am glad 'jayef' has added them to this site as they really are wonderful "customs". Seeing Bette Davis in a poster for "The Letter" in full "Dirty Harry" mode is brilliant.

Here's the link to the TCM site if anyone is interested in seeing them in their original context. (And where you can download the images yourself in an even larger size - pdf format only.)
http://www.tcm.com/2009/summer/index.jsp

To find them on this site, just page through the recent posting history of 'jayef'. You can't miss them.

Thanks.

Those are already categorized (link). I think it also says on each poster page that it is specially designed for TCM.

Anyway, wonderful posters indeed

Thanks for the link to the "tag page" for the SUTS group.  I didn't know that existed.  And it was very nice of 'jayef' to include the TCM provenance in the notes for each of the posters.

I only wanted to provide a link to the site where members can find the images in an even larger format (Big is popular here) while the site is still up.  TCM removes their microsites soon after the run of a special event like "Summer Under The Stars".

I am sure the webfolks at TCM and the Art Directors of "1TrickPony' (who did the creative work) are flattered the images are part of the collection here.
